HOW TO MINIMIZE YOUR TOXICITY EXPOSURE IN YOUR HOME

One of the main beliefs I have, as well as the main philosophy behind my company is that WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. Hence I place a major focus on teaching people how to maximize their nutrition for optimum health via the use of whole food nutrition. Unfortunately, to stay healthy these days, we have to focus on more than just clean eating. We also have to consider MINIMIZING OUR TOXICITY EXPOSURE to environmental toxins.

The British Medical Journal reported in 2004 that environmental and lifestyle factors are key determinants of disease in humans and that they account for about 75% of most cancers. Immune system disorders, neurological problems, allergies and hormonal imbalances have been steadily increasing in North America; studies show that, depending on where you live and work, you could store anywhere between 400 and 800 chemicals in your body, typically in the fat layers.

Here are a few simple tips and strategies you can implement in your home to minimize your toxicity exposure and help your body work at its best.

  • Avoid buying paint and carpeting that is high in VOCs (chemicals that evaporate easily). Instead, stick to wooden floors, organic cotton, wool or plant-based carpets, wood furniture and paints with ‘low’ or ‘zero’ VOC levels
  • Open the windows and freshen up the air in your house every day
  • Use a dry diffuser with essential oils such as clove, cinnamon, peppermint or rosemary to help kill the mold in your home, especially in washrooms and basements
  • Use a wet diffuser with essential oils such as lavender and peppermint as air purifiers for your bedroom and living-room
  • Replace regular paraffin candles (these release cancer causing agents in the air such as benzene and soot) and replace with 100% beeswax candles which burn clean and release negative ions in the air; negative ions can bind with toxins and help remove them from the air
  • Use Himalayan Salt Lamps to reduce the side effects of Wi-Fi radiation from laptops and cellphones
  • Implement a ‘no-shoes policy’ in your homes to reduce contamination from outdoor pesticides
  • Use shower and sink water filters to reduce chlorine and fluoride exposure
  • Make your own laundry detergent using ‘soap nuts’ or buy 100% natural detergents from your local health store
  • Always choose cotton when shopping for bed sheets, clothing, towels etc.
  • Make your own general-purpose cleaner using water, vinegar and essential oils (mix 0.5 cup of organic distilled white vinegar, 0.5 cup water and 12-24 drops essential oil; choose from lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea tree etc.)

Keeping your home healthy and clean will help you tremendously in your journey towards optimum health!

Choose Healthy! Choose Happy! And live always as the best version of yourself.
